Ghatal subdivision in Paschim Medinipur district under West Bengal is considered to be one of the most vulnerable places to a climatic disaster that is 'flood'. The frequency and magnitude of floods in the Ghatal subdivision have increased considerably with the changing time. Ghatal block is a closed area by the river Silabati, old Kangsabati and Dwarakeswar including Jhurl a distributary of Dwarakeswar River that is non-perennial. The critical physiographic location of the Ghatal block makes the severity of floods and their effects. (IJSR)
